The Maine Flower Collective (MFC)  is a growing, member-owned cooperative that provides Maine flower growers and wholesale buyers with a centralized sales network and product delivery system. Our goal is to get more local flowers in the hands of Maine wholesale buyers in sustainable ways through the use of a virtual marketplace, and a central in-person floral market at our MFC Hub located in Brunswick, Maine.

We are now accepting applications for Alternate Delivery Drivers. This is a part-time seasonal position with our season beginning in mid-April and running through October (with the possibility of shifts into November/December). Shifts for our Delivery Drivers include the following days - Tuesdays and Wednesdays are required, with the potential for shifts on Thursdays. Please note that experience with delivery driving and/or experience with flowers is strongly preferred. Applicants will be considered and interviewed on a rolling basis.

Alternate Delivery Driver

Delivery Drivers report to the Operations Manager to pick-up, aggregate and distribute Maine-grown flowers. Driving shifts are state-wide, and cargo is perishable. This position is based out of the MFC hub in Brunswick, Maine. Essential duties and responsibilities are outlined below.

Compensation range: $19/hour, with paid time off accumulated at 1hr per 40hrs worked, technology stipend.

Anticipated start and end date: April 1st, 2024 through October (with the possibility of shifts into November/December)

Job Description

● Assist in preparations for weekly flower pick-ups and deliveries.

● Review weekly pre-orders and delivery routes prepared by the Operations Manager.

● Sort and fulfill flower orders according to MFC quality standards.

● Maintain a professional attitude and appearance and a high-level of customer service.

● Clean delivery vehicle, buckets, work areas of flower debris after each use.

● Assist in bucket washing on a weekly basis.

● Flower pick-up and delivery responsibilities:

○ Drive MFC vehicle to predetermined pick-up locations to receive flowers from growers.

○ Maintain awareness of quality standards throughout pick-up and delivery process.

○ Carefully load & unload flower orders during pick-up and delivery routes.

○ Troubleshoot in the event of unexpected challenges.

○ Be amenable to a flexible schedule.

Requirements

○ Ability & willingness to drive for up to 7 hours a day with a 30 min. break.

○ Must have current driver's license with a clean driving record.

○ Strong customer service experience and good communication skills.

○ Punctuality and reliability.

○ Positive attitude.

○ Ability to manually lift and move up to 50 lbs on a regular basis.

■ Extensive, repetitive physical activity required including bending, stooping, kneeling, carrying, lifting and transferring flower buckets.

■ Prolonged sitting on driving routes.

○ Attention to detail and upholding quality standards.

○ Flower knowledge preferred, however, willingness to learn about flowers essential.

○ Ability to work independently or as part of a collaborative small team.

Work Environment & Schedule:

As this position is for an alternate it could range from 2-3 days per week, totaling 16 - 20 hours, to sporadic shifts throughout the season, based on the delivery needs of the Collective week-to-week. Must be available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays which will be spent driving state-wide pick-up and delivery routes; there will be potential for Thursday delivery shifts as well. In addition to solo time on the road, Delivery Drivers will be expected to help with the loading/unloading, receiving, sorting and organizing of flower orders together with MFC Operations Manager, Market Floor Lead and others. Please note that this work will be physically demanding.
